Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Aug 28 (ANI): MK Stalin was elected as the new Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president at a general body meeting at the party headquarters on Tuesday. The party had to elect its leader after DMK patriarch, M Karunanidhi passed away at the age of 94 on August 7. Karunanidhi’s sons MK Stalin and MK Alagiri were in consideration for the position. Durai Murugan was elected as the treasurer of DMK at the meeting. The party also passed a resolution urging the Union Government to confer Bharat Ratna to five-time CM of Tamil Nadu and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi. Workers and supporters celebrated the occasion outside the meeting venue after the announcement.
