Somnath’s contribution as MP & LS Speaker is a milestone: Dharmendra Pradhan

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha), Aug 13 (ANI): Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan mourned the death of Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. Pradhan said, “Somnath Chatterjee’s contribution as a Member of Parliament and as a Speaker of the Lok Sabha is a milestone.” Chatterjee, who was admitted in a private hospital on August 10, breathed last at 8:15 am today. According to doctors, he had a cardiac arrest. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) veteran was suffering from kidney ailment and was put on ventilator support on Saturday. He suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in July. Born on July 25, 1929, Chatterjee was a 10-time Lok Sabha MP. He was one of the longest-serving parliamentarians in India. He served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009. Chatterjee won the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award in 1996.
