Sumitra Mahajan pays last respect to Somnath Chatterjee

Kolkata, Aug 13 (ANI): Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday reached former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee’s residence to pay her last respect. She paid floral tribute to the former Lok Sabha speaker. Chatterjee, who was admitted in a private hospital on August 10, breathed last at 8:15 am today. According to doctors, he had a cardiac arrest. Chatterjee was suffering from kidney ailment and was put on ventilator support on Saturday. He suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in July. Born on July 25, 1929, Chatterjee was a 10-time Lok Sabha MP. He was one of the longest-serving parliamentarians in India. He served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009. Chatterjee won the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award in 1996.
