Urs of Baba Mir Bakh creates rainbow of religious diversity in Poonch

Poonch (J&K), Aug 20 (ANI): Situated amidst the picturesque scenery, a mountain ridge in Guntarian village was suffused with people and their vehicles parked dotting every possible space. The day was special indeed, as people had left their religions, castes and creeds far below at the foothills of the mountain. Ascending towards the Dargah, some carried holy chaadar and some, flowers to be offered during 34th Urs celebration of Hazrat Sain Baba Mir Baksh. A ‘Darvesh’ or a saint, Baba Mir Baksh is known all across Kashmir for his secular outlook. An ardent traveler by nature, the Sufi Saint stopped at Guntarian village of Poonch district in 1975 to meditate and spread peace and harmony among his many followers. During his stay in the village, the saint fostered cordial relations with Security forces and directed his devotees to construct a long wall towards Pakistan, symbolizing ‘Defence line for India’. After devoting more than 10 years of service to humankind in the village, the saint breathed his last on 26th August 1985. Every year during the Urs celebration people from all walks of life and religions visit the Dargah. Located within a stone’s throw from the border, alert security forces kept a vigil inside-out ensuring peaceful movement of thousands of devotees attending the ceremony. The officers from security forces following their tradition offered a holy chaadar on the shrine of a secular saint who preached a lesson of communal harmony throughout his life.
