Buddhist festival celebrating life of saint begins in Ladakh

Leh (J&K), Sep 17 (ANI): A five-day Buddhist festival, celebrated to honour Saint Naropa- the patron saint of the Drukpa lineage, began in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh on Sunday. Hundreds of people gathered at the Naro Photang Hemis to take part in the thousand years old celebrations where colourful cultural performances showcased the rich tradition of the local people. President of Young Drukpa Association Rinchen Wacher said organizing such festivals gave a platform to people to keep their culture alive. The festival celebrates the life of Indian saint Naropa whose teachings are considered to be the core of Buddhism.
