Naxals hamper progress on bridge construction in Jharkhand

Latehar (Jharkhand), Sept 01 (ANI): The socio-economic condition of tribals in Latehar district of Jharkhand is dire as Naxals, the anti establishment rebels, have brazenly been carrying out their acts of vandalism, challenging the government initiatives for the region. The government made several efforts to construct a bridge to connect the villages and give a trouble-free life to its 30,000 inhabitants. However, the violent-Naxals never let the project get completed and threatened the contractors, thereby forcing them to leave the work. Contractors fled, the construction came to a halt, and the poor people have been reeling under difficulties since then. The troubles compound to alarming levels during the rainy season. The tribals of Jharkhand have been living a life under abject poverty and with the rising violent activities of Naxals, who otherwise proclaim to be champions of tribals’ rights; the socio-economic graph of poor people is only going down. Naxals are frustrated by the fact that their influence is shrinking with time as people are getting attracted towards the government’s developmental schemes and benefits launched exclusively for them.
