Wife of man who died in sewer pit narrates the incident

New Delhi, Sep 18 (ANI): In yet another horrific incident, a man died while cleaning a sewer pit in West Delhi’s Dabri on September 14. The wife of the deceased said, “My daughter said that someone has come and my husband went away. A man had come to ask him to make net for the sewer. I reached the site where my husband was working. People present there told me he had fallen inside sewer pit. I don’t know whether I would receive any help or not. I can’t even think straight right now.” Delhi Minister RP Gautam said, “It’s a really sad incident. Manual scavenging is totally banned. There are clear directions against entering septic tanks. We’ll give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family.” In a similar incident, five sanitation workers died allegedly after inhaling toxic fumes while cleaning a sewer near DLF flats in Moti Nagar area.
