MeToo fallout: MJ Akbar resigns from his post of MoS External Affairs

New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): MJ Akbar on Wednesday resigned from his post of Minister of State External Affairs after facing the flak for allegations of sexual harassment against him raised by several women journalists. MJ Akbar had issued a statement regarding this. “Since I have decided to seek justice in a court of law in my personal capacity, I deem it appropriate to step down from office and challenge false accusations levied against me, also in a personal capacity. I have, therefore, tendered my resignation from the office of Minister of State for External Affairs. I am deeply grateful to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and to the External Affairs Minister Smt Sushma Swaraj for the oppurtunity they gave me to serve my country.” Akbar was accused of sexual harassment from his former colleagues during his stint as an editor in The Asian Age. He had termed the allegations against him as “baseless” and “fabricated” and filed a criminal defamation complaint against journalist Priya Ramani, who was the first to name him, in Delhi’s Patiala House court.
