On Police Commemoration Day, Singer Soumita Saha urges people to treat Policemen with Love not Fear

The role of Police is extremely important to the society. As civilians. we often fail to understand that we are able to lead our normal life only because they are on duty. However, there exits a continued public apathy towards cops, which not only demoralizes them but also This public apathy towards the police demoralizes them to some extent. In an attempt to fill this gap, famed Singer Soumita Saha came forward to express gratitude to them on Police Commemoration Day.

This Day is observed on October 21 every year to pay homage to policemen killed in an ambush by Chinese troops in 1959 in Ladakh. On 21 October 1959, Sub Inspector Karam Singh and 20 other soldiers were attacked by the Chinese Army at Hot Springs area in Ladakh resulting in 10 casualties. The survivors were imprisoned. Since then, 21 October is observed as Police Commemoration day nationwide, across all states in India. Numerous other personnel who laid down their lives protecting India’s unity and integrity are also remembered on the occasion.

Soumita, who is quite vocal on social issues said, “I completely agree with what Sidney Sheldon says; my heroes are indeed those who risk their lives everyday to protect our world and make it a better place. Recently, we have faced many mishaps in Kolkata including Bridge Collapse, Marketplaces Fire and Policemen have always risked their lives to serve during those incident”.

“Social networks these days is the best channel to convey our love, craze and passion for many special days and auspicious occasions. This day deserves a lot of attention, in fact we all should celebrate this day in honour of our heroes”, she added.

“On this day, I urge people to treat Policemen with Love not fear. What they do is simply their duty. Their job is accompanied by tremendous physical and mental strain. They can’t please everyone everytime. Once we realize this fact, our fear against them will disappear”, she further added.

As an activist, Soumita is famous for highlighting less known issues and events. Through her large fan following on social media, she has succeeded in making tangible impact in the favor of society. In February this year, her first Hindi song “Ishq” was released internationally and was marked a hit with over 100000 downloads. She is currently working on several new songs with renowned labels like T-Series.
