Sabarimala row: Protests continue against women’s entry into Sabarimala Temple

Nilakkal/Pamba (Kerala), Oct 17 (ANI): Tension has gripped Kerala as Sabarimala temple’s gates were thrown open to devotees on Wednesday. Today marks the first day in centuries that women will be allowed to enter the temple. Protestors from different sects of Hinduism have been protesting ever since Supreme Court overruled a restrictive tradition running over centuries where menstrual women were not allowed entry into the temple. Kerala’s Shiv Sena even issued a warning saying, thousands of Hindu women will commit suicide if women tried to enter the sacred temple. Security has been beefed up near the temple to ward off any untoward incident that might arise from the ongoing protests. Women protested in Nilakkal against the entry of women in the age group of 10-50 years to the Sabarimala temple. Men participating in the pilgrimage to the temple also staged protests near Pamba base camp against entry of women.
