5 people suffocate to death in a well in Maharashtra’s Kalyan

Kalyan (Maharashtra), Nov 01 (ANI): Five people died in a well in Thane’s Kalyan in Maharashtra on Thursday. While a labour has died of suffocation inside the well, two trustees and two fire department officials succumbed to death after they went in to rescue the labourer. Police is investigating the chemical sample from the water. Four out of five dead bodies were recovered from the well. Pratap Dighavkar, Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region), Thane said, “A man (name not known) was sent to clean a well. When he went down to clean the well, he died there due to suffocation. We don’t know whether he knew swimming or not. Two people who went inside the well to rescue him also died. Also, two rescuers from fire brigade team died due to suffocation.” Preliminary investigation suggested that the incident occurred due to sulphur content in the water of the well in Kalyan.
