Budgam (Jammu & Kashmir), Nov 03 (ANI): The Indian Army paid tribute to Major Somnath Sharma on 72th anniversary of ‘Battle of Budgam Day’ in a wreath laying ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam. GOC 15 Corps , GOC Victor force and other senior army officers were present at the ceremony. Sharma is the first recipient of the highest Indian gallantry award Param Vir Chakra. Major Sharma was affiliated with the 4th battalion, Kumaon regiment. He was killed when Pakistani soldiers and their raiders were going to attack Srinagar Airport in 1947. Major Sharma bravely fought the enemies.
