MP Assembly Elections: Presiding Officer will decide, says CEC Rawat on Scindia’s poll hour extension request

New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat on Wednesday said that the local poll officers can choose to extend election time if required. His comment came after Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia asked to extend polling time after reports of EVMs malfunctioning emerged. On the issue, Rawat said, “The VVPATs supplied in Kairana were malfunctioned so the Commission made a root cause analysis of them by stopping them midway. After which the functioning was restored. In this case, there are provisions for the extension of time, the local officers can take the call as they see fit. The matter does not need to be handled by the commission.”
