Rajasthan assembly polls: Bikaner couple to contest election on same seat as independent candidates

Bikaner (Rajasthan), Nov 21 (ANI): Happily married for 37 years, a couple filed nominations from Bikaner East assembly seat as independent candidates for the upcoming Rajasthan assembly election. Swaroop Chand Ghelot (55) and his wife Manjulata Ghelot (52) decided to contest individually from the same constituency to be with each other. Swaroop Chand Ghelot said, “We are very happy with each other. I am contesting election since 1988 and every time I leave for campaign my wife becomes alone. As all our three daughters got married, we decided that this year she will also contest and we can be with each other.” Their focus will be on development and women empowerment mainly. Farmers’ problem is also one of the core issues for the duo which they say have been overlooked by the political parties and government. Manjulata Ghelot said, “We have always supported each other. If he wins, I will support him and if I win, he will lend his support to me. We are hopeful that one of us will definitely win.” Interestingly, the wife is aiming for women’s vote whereas the husband is aiming for men’s vote.
