New Delhi, Dec 11 (ANI): Seers and members of Lingayat community protested at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday seeking independent status for Lingayat religion. As part of the protest, the members of the community raised slogans. The community geared up for the protest after the Centre rejected the Karnataka government’s recommendation seeking religious minority status to Lingayat and Veerashaiva communities. The Centre had told the Karnataka High Court that the state government’s recommendation was rejected as these communities form part of Hindu religion and therefore cannot be given a status of separate religion.
