Protests erupt against Kohala hydropower project in Jhelum valley

Jhelum Valley, PoK, 11 December, 2018:- Massive protests erupted in Jhelum valley in Pakistan occupied Kashmir against the construction of Kohala hydropower project which is being pursued aggressively and exclusively by Chinese companies under a direct patronage of Islamabad. The project that is being built on a branch of river Jhelum is the latest undertaking in the line of China Pakistan Economic Corridor and is set to render locals reeling under inhuman conditions as their land and resources are going to be taken over by the state soon. The seething anger is the sign of years-long economic depredations being carried by Pakistan to fill its coffers in Islamabad and returning nothing to indigenous people who have the prerogative over the land and resources of the region. While Pakistan claims CPEC as a project of development and prosperity, the reality is it is selling out the illegal region to its masters sitting in Beijing.
