Vijay Mallya named ‘fugitive economic offender’ by special PMLA court

Mumbai, Jan 05 (ANI): A special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Mumbai declared absconding liqueur baron Vijay Mallya a ‘fugitive economic offender’. The hearing in Special PMLA court on the confiscation of the properties of Vijay Mallya will be held on February 05. This is the first time that a person has been declared a ‘fugitive economic offender’. His lawyer, senior advocate Amit Desai chose to keep mum about the hearing, saying that he hasn’t “received a copy” yet. Mallya has been embroiled in a bank fraud and money laundering case amounting to around Rs 9,000 crore.
