In the upcoming spy thriller RAW (Romeo Akbar Walter), John Abraham plays Rehmatulla Ali aka Romeo, an average guy with a regular bank job. His unique ability to blend into any environment gets him noticed by RAW and changes his life forever.
Speaking about the role, John Abraham says, “Romeo Akbar Walter is one of the most challenging films of my career. Apart from the multiple looks, I had to understand each character individually. Robbie (Grewal, director) was clear on how each character would be presented and his inputs made it easy for me. Romeo is probably the character that’s closest to me. He is just like all of us. What makes him different is his choice to sacrifice his identity to protect the nation.â€
The makers of the film recently released a new song, Bulleya, featuring Rabbi Shergill and Shahid Mallya, which also introduces Romeo’s character to the audience. The song is composed by Sohail Sen.
Written and directed by Robbie Grewal, RAW is an espionage thriller, set in the dynamic period of 1971. The film stars John Abraham, Mouni Roy, Jackie Shroff, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi and Raghubir Yadav.
Set in the tumultuous period of 1968-71, RAW is based on true events which had an impact on the future of three countries- India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. It was a period, which saw the subcontinent’s most decisive battle marking the birth of Bangladesh. In just 13 days the Pakistan army surrender unconditionally to the Indian army, making the 1971 war one of the shortest in history. India’s intelligence agencies, especially RAW, played a very crucial part in this conflict, which made every Indian action precise, impactful and deadly.
John Abraham essays the role of a RAW agent who chooses to serve his country and sacrifices everything he has, even his very existence.
