Make in India Meets Maritime Might: ACTCM Barges Bolster Indian Fleet

In a significant boost to the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities and self-reliance efforts, the fifth barge of the 11 x Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge Project was launched on January 24, 2024. Christened ‘LSAM 19 (Yard 129)’, this state-of-the-art vessel was built by MSME shipyard M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, Thane, showcasing India’s prowess in advanced shipbuilding.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency:

The ACTCM barges are designed to significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s operational flexibility and efficiency. They will play a crucial role in:

  • Transportation of ammunition and critical supplies: Facilitating the safe and efficient movement of vital resources, including ammunition, torpedoes, and missiles, to Indian Navy ships both at jetties and outer harbors.
  • Embarkation and disembarkation: Streamlining the deployment and retrieval of personnel and equipment, enabling faster response times and improved operational readiness.
  • Logistics support: Providing vital logistical support for various naval operations, enhancing overall mission effectiveness.

  • Designed and built in India: Developed by Indian engineers and constructed by a domestic shipyard, these barges showcase India’s thriving shipbuilding industry and its ability to meet complex defense requirements.
  • Built to stringent standards: Complying with the rigorous Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping, these barges are built to the highest international standards, ensuring operational reliability and safety.
  • Model tested for optimal performance: Prior to construction, the barge design underwent rigorous model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, Visakhapatnam, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
