New Delhi, India – In celebration of International Mother Language Day, the Kalanidhi Division and Academic Unit of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) have unveiled ‘Akshar | Shabd | Bhasha,’ an exhibition honoring India’s remarkable linguistic diversity. The exhibition explores the profound significance of mother languages and their role in shaping our society.
Spanning across the Darshanam I and II galleries, with an engaging interactive wall, the exhibit will run until February 29th, 2024. It features a curated showcase of insightful quotes in India’s 22 scheduled languages, highlighting the unique characteristics of each. Viewers are invited to an immersive experience within the exhibition spaces.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Ms. Lily Pandeya, along with other notable figures like Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi (Member Secretary, IGNCA), inaugurated the event.
UNESCO proclaimed February 21st International Mother Language Day in 1999 to foster an appreciation for linguistic and cultural diversity worldwide.
Established in 2017, the Academic Unit of IGNCA aligns with IGNCA’s goal of preserving and promoting India’s artistic and cultural legacy. The unit provides professional training in the field of culture. Initially offering three Post Graduate Diploma courses, the unit has significantly expanded its program offerings.
