Is This the Future of Mobile? FR3 Demo Steals the Show at MWC

New Frontier for Mobile Technology: Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Showcase FR3 Capabilities at MWC Barcelona

Dubai, UAE, February 15, 2024 – As the mobile industry gears up for 5G-Advanced and 6G, a new frequency range known as FR3 is gaining traction. This upper-midband spectrum (7.125 to 24.25 GHz) promises to unlock a new era of mobile communication with enhanced data performance and wider coverage. At the recent World Radio Conference 2023, industry leaders and regulators agreed to explore this band for future generations of mobile networks.

Leading test and measurement solutions provider Rohde & Schwarz has joined forces with Qualcomm Technologies, a pioneer in wireless system technology, to showcase the readiness and effectiveness of FR3 technology. This collaboration demonstrates the viability of Giga-MIMO systems for next-generation infrastructure, offering both improved data rates and coverage comparable to current 5G networks.

Testing the Future with Advanced Equipment

To validate the performance of this prototype, Qualcomm Technologies utilized Rohde & Schwarz’s R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and R&S FSW signal and spectrum analyzer. These advanced tools enabled testing of wider signal bandwidths compared to existing specifications, paving the way for higher data rates and lower latency.

“We are thrilled to explore the new frontier of mobile communications alongside Qualcomm Technologies,” said Andreas Pauly, Chief Technology Officer at Rohde & Schwarz. “Our tailored test solutions play a crucial role in advancing research for 5G-Advanced and 6G networks, and exploring the FR3 frequency range lays the foundation for the success of tomorrow’s mobile applications.”

Showcasing FR3 Capabilities at MWC Barcelona

At the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2024, Rohde & Schwarz will present a high-performance signal generation and analysis setup for early FR3 research. This setup features the latest R&S SMW200A vector signal generator and R&S FSVA3000 signal analyzer, both equipped with cutting-edge technologies for accurate and efficient testing. Visitors can experience this demonstration and explore the potential of FR3 technology at booth 5A80 in Hall 5 of the Fira Gran Via in Barcelona.

Collaboration Paves the Way for the Future

The collaboration between Rohde & Schwarz and Qualcomm Technologies highlights the importance of industry partnerships in driving innovation and accelerating the development of future mobile networks. By showcasing the potential of FR3, these companies are paving the way for a transformative leap in wireless communication, shaping the future of mobile connectivity.
