Jaipur, Rajasthan: India’s largest power producer, NTPC, has taken a significant step towards clean energy with the first phase of its Chhattargarh Solar project coming online in Rajasthan. This 70 MW milestone marks a bright beginning for NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. (NTPC-REL), a subsidiary dedicated to renewable energy ventures.
The project adds to the impressive 73,958 MW installed capacity of the NTPC Group and joins 17 other renewable projects currently under execution, exceeding a total capacity of 6,000 MW. With the remaining 80 MW of the Chhattargarh project expected to be commissioned by March 2024, the total operational renewable energy capacity of the NTPC Group will reach a remarkable 3,448 MW.
This achievement was celebrated by Shri Mohit Bhargava, CEO of NTPC-REL, and other officials. Upon completion, the 150 MW project is projected to generate enough clean energy to power 60,000 households annually. This translates to significant environmental benefits as well, with the project expected to save 3 lakh tons of CO2 emissions per year, equivalent to planting over 1.5 million trees. Additionally, the project will conserve valuable water resources by saving 1,000 MMTPA of water annually, enough for over 5,000 households.
Secured under SECI-Tranche:III, the Chhattargarh Solar project brings clean energy and environmental benefits to the state of Rajasthan. This accomplishment signifies NTPC’s commitment to diversifying its energy portfolio and contributing to India’s clean energy transition. With its focus on renewable energy development, NTPC-REL is poised to play a leading role in shaping a sustainable future for the nation.
