Bihar boy becomes first Indian to be selected for Europe’s highest scholarship

Alok Arun, a native of Darbhanga, is one of the 16 candidates to be selected from all over the world to be admitted in a PhD program at the prestigious Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris, France.

Arun, who did his schooling from Darbhanga’s Rose Public School before graduating from Delhi’s Hindu College with a degree in Botany (Honors) and a degree in M.Sc. (Botany), finished his M.Phil from Delhi University in a record time of 10 months.

While pursuing his M.Phil, Arun was selected for the Europe’s highest scholarship, Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, for pursuing PhD in France.

He will be attending the elite Marine Genomics Europe Summer School at Roscoff, France, between May 24 and June 5.

Incidentally, Arun also happens to be the first Indian ever to be selected in this course that is organized in various parts of the Europe each year.

With his immense knowledge and intellect, it is no surprise then that Arun has been invited to present a paper in the International Conference of Sexual Plant Reproduction to be held in Bristol, UK in the first week of August this year.

Arun expresses his gratitude towards his former teachers, including Prof. (late) Shankaranand Palit of Darbhanga and Dr. K. K. Koul, Dept. of Botany, Hindu College, Delhi University for providing him proper guidance and acting as his mentors.
