Govt to operate 122 buses on PPP basis

PATNA: The state government is planning to operate 122 new buses on public-private partnership (PPP) basis. An agreement to this effect has already been reached between the transport department and private bus operators.

Replying to a short notice question of Amrendra Pratap Singh, BJP, the transport minister Brishen Patel said that 72 buses were already in operation under P-P partnership. He said that the transport department has as many as 414 buses with it. Of these, 111 need to be repaired and only 239 buses are in operation.

The acute shortage of buses has definitely affected the revenue generation. Patel mentioned that the department has fixed target to generate Rs 430 crore during the current fiscal. At present, only Rs 232 crore revenue is being received. When Singh, in his supplementary, asked whether the department intends to get out of the loss, and if yes, how? Patel said that the department’s officials have informed him that if certain infrastructure is developed the department can generate revenue up to Rs 1,000-Rs 1,200 crore per year.

To a question, asked by Achuanand, BJP, whether the human resources department has any plan to reconstitute Shiksha Samiti in 70,000 schools, HRD minister P K Shahi said that since the Right to Education is in vogue such committees would be constituted only after making certain amendments as per the Right to Education Act. Moreover, since most of the teachers would be involved in the forthcoming panchayat elections, the committees would be revived only after that.

Dilip Kumar Verma (Ind) mentioned during zero hour that though the Kabir Anteyeshthi Yojana is in place, the extremely poor people are finding it difficult to cremate dead persons. The government should ensure money is allotted to Dalits and poor under such scheme for cremation of the dead.

Ramanand Yadav (RJD), through call attention notice, demanded investigation into irregularities in the construction of road between Mauzipur and Bikrampur in Fatuha under Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojna. Minister for rural works Bhim Singh said that the matter would be inquired by the principal secretary of the department.
