The West Bengal government has plans of awarding the Banga Vibhushan this year, among others, to sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and legendary Bengali screen actress Suchitra Sen.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said at a meeting “If they accept, this year’s Banga Vibhushan will be bestowed to Pandit Ravi Shankar and Suchitra Sen, among others.”
Sen has not come out of her private world ever since she quit acting decades back and guards her privacy zealously.
After coming to power last year, the Mamata government instituted the Banga-Vibhushan award to felicitate eminent celebrities from various fields – acting, sports, music, dance and writing.
