Afghan Taliban sentenced to 3 years Jail in Purnea

Purnea:  A Bihar court  has sentened a 3 years jail term to an Afghan with close links to the Taliban, who was arrested in Purnia district in 2010 for trying to illegally sneak into Bangladesh, a government lawyer said.

A district judge in Purnia also fined Ghulam Rasool Khan alias Khan Mirza Rs.3,000, public prosecutor Vimal Mandal said.

“Mirza, who is lodged in Purnia jail, has been kept under strict surveillance,” a police officer said.

According to the police, on the basis of intelligence inputs, Mirza was arrested in Purnia district Jan 13, 2010 while planning to cross the India-Bangladesh border. A Pakistani passport and other documents were recovered from him.

However, after the court sentenced him, Mirza told reporters that he was not a foreigner but an Indian.
