Delhi State Government has decided to increase the supply of subsidized LPG cylinders from nine to 12 for 3.5 lakh poor households in the capital.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
“Delhi has always been at the forefront in providing relief to poor and vulnerable families,” the chief minister told reporters here.
The decision came close on the heels of central government raising the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders from six to nine.
Dikshit added that her government would release Rs.15 crore to facilitate deliveries of the three extra subsidised cylinders to the poor.
The government would bear subsidy of Rs.350 per cylinder to meet the difference of cost between non-subsidised and subsidised cylinders.
The extra LPG cylinders would be made available only to those households registered under the Delhi government’s sponsored Kerosene Free Delhi scheme.
The scheme was launched Aug 2012 under which over 3.5 lakh below poverty line (BPL) and poor households will be provided LPG cylinders and cooking stoves.
