Assam Flood 2013: Situation improves as Water recedes Down

Guwahati: The Flood Situation in Assam has improved as the Water receded from the affected areas of Dhemaji, Chirang, Lakhimpur district and Majuli River Island in Jorhat. Around 15 thousand people from 100 villages in the state have been affected due to the sudden influx of Flood Water. Also, the flood water has damaged one thousand 700 hectare crop land in Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Chirang district during last 24 hours.

According to district Officials, 900 people have taken shelter in 7 relief camps. District administration distributed relief materials to flood affected people.

The MeT department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in next 24 hours in West Assam. Meanwhile, the low lying areas of the Kaziranga National park have been inundated.

The Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger level at Nematighat.  Senior forest officials said that low lying areas of Kaziranga National Park have been inundated in flood water. But no casualties to wild animals have been reported.
