Bihar lodged 11786 FIR during Six months against Power Theft

Bihar State Power Holding  Company reports that, during last 6 Months it has lodged 11786 FIR with Police, against Power Theft. It has also earned several Crores by imposing Fines on people caught stealing Electricity and Defaulters.

A Statistics shows that during April 1 to April 9, it earned a sum of Rs 1.44 crores by imposing fine against defaulters. In March alone, a total of 244 FIRs were lodged and a fine of Rs 6.16 crore in Southern parts of Bihar.

Raids were conducted by PESU,  North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and South  Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL), the three independent companies under Bihar State  Power Holding Company Ltd.

As per available statistics, more cases of power theft were reported in South Bihar, as compared to Northern Bihar.

The Magadh Division has topped the list of Power Theft cases under SBPDCL while Purnea topped the chart under NBPDCL.

According to legal experts, Theft of electricity is a crime and punishable by heavy fines and, in some cases, imprisonment.

According to a study, 80% of total theft detected all over the world is from dwelling places and 20% from commercial and industrial premises.
