Bihar shows Record decline in Poverty during last 7 Years

Bihar has shown a Record decline in Poverty during last 7 Years. As per the statistics disseminated by Planning Commission of India,   the percentage of BPL People of the total population in Bihar has  been estimated to be  33.7% in 2011-12  in contrast to 54.4% in 2004-05, a steep reduction by 20.7 percentage.

Though Odisha  tops the list of the Poverty Reduction Rate, Bihar stands next to it.  During 2004-05, Bihar was at the bottom of the List depicting percentage of Population below poverty lines. Now it holds a position above four states Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

However, still today  the percentage of population below Poverty line in Bihar is much higher than the National Average of 21.9%.

The statistics further indicate that Goa tops the list with only 5.09% of Population below Poverty Line. It is followed by Kerala (7.05), Himachal Pradesh (8.06),Punjab (8.26) and Puducherry (9.26).
