NTPC Thermal Power PlantThe 4000 MW  Banka Thermal Power Plant being set up jointly by BSEB and NTPC would be a reality soon as Central Govt has initiated Coal Linkage Allocation Process for it. The Central Electricity Authority has recommended CMPDI to allocate nearest Coal Block to this Ultra Mega Power Project. The block for coal supply could be  Lalmatia coalfield  in the Godda district of Jharkhand.

If things go smooth, the Construction is likely to begin in 2014. As per the protocol, Bihar would have around 2000 MW (50%) of Power Share from this plant.

2440 Acres of Land has been identified near Kakwara-Katoria block in Banka district of Bihar. The plant would be built upon area marked as Wasteland in mountainous region of Banka.

Last October, a high-level team comprising officials of NTPC Limited, BSEB, besides Banka district officials made a physical survey of the proposed area.

Besides fulfilling the Electricity needs of the state, this plant would cater to huge employment opportunities and would also uplift the Living standard of the economically backward areas like Banka
