8 charged in Foreign Women Molestation Case on Holi in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Police Tuesday slapped eight men with charges for molesting three foreigners during the Holi festival in the national capital.

During Holi On March 17, the eight men wrongfully restrained and molested three women – hailing from Germany, South Africa and Columbia – while they were going to the Garden of Five Senses in an autorickshaw after shopping at a mall in south Delhi, the charge sheet filed against them said.

The charges were filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Ankita Lal.

The eight men named in the charge sheet are Surjeet, Prince, Krishanjeet, Gurdeet, Jaspal, Vijay Singh, Sunny and Deepu.

The charge sheet said the men got out of their SUV and smeared colour on the women, telling them it was a common practice to put colour on strangers during Holi.

“As their auto reached Press Enclave Road in south Delhi, it was waylaid by an SUV whose all eight occupants, who were drunk, then molested the women,” it said.

Police said that after the women resisted, the men heckled at them and slapped them.

“When the women, who are here on a tourist visa, raised an alarm, the assailants fled the spot,” police said.

The women were in India along with a tourist group and were staying at a hotel in Paharganj area.

The eight men were arrested March 18 after a complaint and were sent to judicial custody till March 31.
