6 new Guaranteed Job courses introduced in Delhi University

New Delhi: Second and third year students of Delhi University under the four year undergraduate programme will now have choices of six new applied courses guaranteeing a job through the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC), DU Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh said Friday.

The varsity has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the NSDC after which these new six applied courses – compulsory courses a student has to study one a year from third semester to sixth semester along with their discipline I courses – have been started. The courses are information technology (IT) and IT related services, business financial services and insurance (BFSI), telecom, healthcare, media and entertainment and automotive.

“Many students pass out from DU every year but not everyone get jobs… with this courses. the students will get skill based knowledge and training” Singh told reporters here.

“As many as 70 percent of the students will be assured placement through NSDC for getting jobs or becoming entrepreneurs,” he added.

However a student who opts to take these courses will have to pay Rs.2,500 per semester as course fee.

“A student can also take loans from NSDC to study and they can pay the loan after they get a job,” said the vice chancellor.

Initially experts from the NSDC will come to train the students, but with time the teachers of the varsity will take over.

Along with this, the varsity has also signed an additional MOU for skills based training under the star scheme of NSDC for training students during summer vacations.
