Building collapse in Inderlok Area of North Delhi claims 4 Lives

New Delhi: Four people were killed and five injured when a building collapsed here Saturday morning, an official said.

The building collapsed around 9 a.m. in north Delhi’s Inderlok area.

“Four people have been killed in the incident. Rescue operations are on to bring out those who are still trapped under the debris,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Madhur Verma told IANS.

North Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) mayor Yogender Chandolia told IANS that the old building collapsed as its base weakened due to ongoing construction nearby.

“The NDMC has provided an excavator to remove the debris in addition to four fire tenders sent by the fire department,” he added.

Of the nine injured, five people were rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital and four others were taken to Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital.

“Out of the five admitted to Bara Hindu Rao hospital, four died. Those who died were members of one family,” Verma said.

“Though the ones admitted to Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital are in a critical condition, no definite information is available on them,” he added.

“Four to five families lived in the building and three people are still feared trapped under the debris,” the DCP said.
