Ex Maha Home Minister R R Patil hospitalized in Critical Condition

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Home Minister and NCP leader Raosaheb Ramrao Patil (R R Patil) aged 57, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai where his condition is reported to be critical.

Raosaheb Ramrao Patil is the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party’s Maharashtra unit and NCP legislative party in Maharashtra.

On November 1, 2004, he was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. H He also served as the Home Minister of Maharashtra, until he was forced to resign over his comment on 26/11 Mumbai Attacks.

He was quoted saying, “They (the terrorists) came to kill 5,000 people but we ensured minimal damage”. Further, when asked at a press conference whether the Mumbai Attack was an intelligence failure, Patil replied, “It is not like that. In big cities like this, small incidents do happen. It’s is not a total failure.” His this statement drew flak from many quarters, though his supporters argue that he was misquoted by media and his statement taken out of context.

Hewas born on 16 August 1957 in the village of Anjani of Sangli district of Maharashtra. He obtained a B.A and LLB from Shantiniketan College Sangli. He is also known as ‘Aaba’.
