BEA General Secretary NK Singh said that the board believes in law of the land and that the freedom of expression should not be obstructed.

He said that the documentary is not violating the Constitution of India and is not against the laws of the state and therefore government’s stand on banning the documentary is not right.

Singh further said that the documentary should be stopped only in case it is revealing the identity of the victim and not otherwise. He also opined that it will strengthen Indian society even further.

Meanwhile, reactions flowed on Saturday over reports of BBC to release documentary on Nirbhaya, ‘India’s Daughter’ in the US on March 09.

BJP leaders Shazia Ilmi and GVL Narasimha Rao said that the Indian government has already issued a notice to BBC adding that the media broadcaster will follow the rule of its own country.

Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi said that the Indian government should have taken notice as to how the foreign media persons were allowed to interview a criminal. Further, Nirbhaya’s mother said that if the government feels the documentary should not be released then its broadcast should be immediately stopped.
