Upset over the summons issued to him the former prime minister had earlier this month said he was sure that the truth would prevail in the matter. He said that he respects the judicial process and in any fair trial he will be able to establish his “total innocence”.

A special CBI court in Delhi had summoned the former prime minister, former coal secretary P.C. Parakh, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and three others in the coal blocks allocation case on March 11.

The court summoned them on alleged charges of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. They have all been asked to appear before the court on April 8.

Congress Party came fully in support of Ex-Prime Minister. Party President Sonia Gandhi described former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh as a man of integrity and probity, adding that the party would fight the summons issued to the latter in the coal blocks allocation scam legally. Gandhi also led a solidarity march to Singh’s residence, said the Congress is outraged at the news of summons being served to the former prime minister.
