Diego Barkan from Israel’s Antiquities Authority says the vessels most likely held a thick, partially baked barley and water mixture left to ferment in the sun … producing beer.

But the discovery also suggests that the Egyptians settled further north during that time than once believed.

Diego Barkan, Israel’s Antiquities Authority says, “What is special in this site that we for the first time in Tel Aviv in the Early Bronze Age we found some pits which belongs to the Egyptian people who settler (settled) here in about 5000 years ago.”

Local microbrewery owner, David Cohen hopes he can pick up a few tips from the ancient beer brewers.

David Cohen, microbrewery owner, says, “We brew beers for the most part where try to use local ingredients as much as possible. And any clues that I can possibly get from the archaeologists here, I’d be happy to understand what kind of beer they were making here.”

I wonder if a pint of the ancient beer would make one walk like an Egyptian?
