BJP and Left Front call for Total West Bengal Bandh on April 30

Kolkata: The West Bengal Unit of BJP and Left Parties have separately called for West Bengal Shutdown (Bandh) on April 30, to protest against “terror and violence” by the ruling Trinamool Congress in the just-concluded civic elections. While the counting of votes is on-going, Trinamool Congress had made a big sweep in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and 91 other civic bodies of the state.

Earlier Left Parties had called for a 24 hour Bandh on April 30, while BJP made it call yesterday with a 12 hour Bandh on the same day. The CITU, INTUC and six Left-backed trade unions are also supporting the Bandh.

With two major parties calling for shutdown, this would affect the life in West Bengal to a great extent.

The BJP also urged the Congress to call bandh on that day to protest against the alleged “murder of democracy.” However these has been no such response from Congress yet.

BJP State President Rahul Sinha indicated that the fight against TMC would continue and they would observe “a save democracy” fortnight from May 1.

Sinha also alleged a “nexus between the SEC and the state government” and said the central forces which arrived in the state were not used for civic poll duty.
