The CBI also stated that 2G spectrum was granted to ineligible companies such as Swan Telecom Pvt Ltd and Unitech Wireless. Former Telecom Minister A. Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and others, including top corporate executives, are facing trial in the case.

In its charge sheet, CBI had alleged that there was a loss of around 31,000 crore rupees to the exchequer in the allocation of 122 licences for 2G spectrum.

Last month, a special CBI court had summoned the former prime minister as an accused in a coal scam case. Industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, former coal secretary P C Parakh and three others were also summoned as accused. The court summoned them for offences of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act. Extremely upset with the summons Manmohan Singh said that the truth will prevail in the case. “Of course, I am upset, but this is a part of life. I am sure that truth will prevail and I will get a chance to put forward my case with facts,” he told the media in Parliament.

On April 1, the Supreme Court had stayed the summons to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and five others by a Delhi court in connection with the coal scam case. The former Prime Minister and billionaire Kumar Mangalam Birla were asked to appear on April 8. The court had also stayed the summons to Birla and four others.
