Vegetable Cultivation under Poly houses gains Momentum in Kashmir

Srinagar: The government in Kashmir has taken an initiative to provide poly houses at subsidised rates to farmers to help them increase vegetable production and also protect their crops from vagaries of fluctuating weather.

Poly house farming is an agricultural technique in which cultivation of vegetables is done in a controlled atmosphere, under ultraviolet film roofing and nets to keep pests out.

The initiative has benefited farmers of several villages in Budgam district and the government wants to expand it to other districts as well.

Poly houses have also become very useful in cultivating saplings. Most of the farmers have taken up cultivating saplings during off season.
