Kudumbashree involves women of different faiths in its ‘Jackfruit Festival’

Kochi, May 25 (ANI): A ‘Jackfruit Festival’, held in Kerela, attracted large number of people to taste the different specialities prepared from Jackfruit, found abundantly in the southern state. Organised by the Kudumbashree, a self-help women’s group, the festival, also known as ‘Then Varikka Festival’ was an effort to showcase the culinary magic of the women chefs. Kudumbashree involved many women in the event, who form part of its core working group. During the event, different forms of jackfruit– ripe, raw, sliced, fried, minced, pulped, and juiced were on display. Besides, women chefs of the self-help-group from different section of the society were preparing different delicacies from the single fruit. The demand for ‘chakka puzhukku’ and ‘chakka ada’ along with chips was intense. Kudumbashree is formally registered as the “State Poverty Eradication Mission” (SPEM), a society registered under the Travancore Kochi Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act 1955. Without any barriers of caste, creed or religion, it works for the empowerment of women and encourages entrepreneur skills among them by forming self-help groups.
