Navy Chief RK Dhowan downplays China’s expansion plans in Indian Ocean

New Delhi, May 29 (ANI): Indian Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan downplayed a ‘white paper’ released by China, outlining strategy to boost its naval capacities and announcing plans for the construction of two lighthouses in disputed waters. The navy chief, while replying to a question on China’s perceived threat in the Indian Ocean region, said it was natural for the navy of any country to have a strategy covering wide spectrum of their entire operations. He said the navy was stepping up security along the entire coast by inducting new ships. India’s long coastline spreading across 7,516 kilometres is strategic for the country’s defence system.
