Senior Kerala IPS Officer of IG Rank, caught cheating in Law Examination

Kochi: A Senior IPS Officer in Kerala was today caught cheating in Examination conducted by MG university. The Police Officer was allegedly caught indulging in unfair means by placing a chit between his answer sheets. He was later asked to leave the examination hall.

Cheating in Exam by senior Police officers is rather uncommon

According to media reports, T J Jose, inspector general of police, posted in Thrissur, was appearing for in a Examination of LLM Crime-II paper as an off-campus candidate of MG University. This incident happened at St Paul’s college, Kalamassery in Kochi where he was caught with photostat copy of some notes at around 11:30 AM.

The invigilator immediately informed the external examiner and college manager. They questioned him and the IG left the campus and took the chit with him. Reports say that the invigilator did not know that the person he caught cheating was a senior IPS officer.

Jose however refuted every allegations against him. “I had appeared for the one of the papers of the LLM examination held on Saturday, I appeared for the examination today also. I will be appearing for the examination to be held on Tuesday also.”, he was said quoting in local media.

This incident created a wide furore in local media and caused embarassment to the state Government. Kerala’s Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala later confirmed that the IG has been asked to proceed on leave, while the allegation against him is investigated by Northern Region ADGP Shankar Reddy.

No other action is likely to be taken against him till a preliminary investigation is over. However he will be debarred, if he is found guilty, university sources said.
