Flood situation in Assam remains grim

Majuli, June 16 (ANI): Assam continues to reel under flood fury as many districts received excess rainfall, inundating houses with flood water. The river Brahmaputra and its tributaries in Barpeta, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Kokrajhar, Sivasagar, Tinsukia, Nalbari, Goalpada, Jorhat, Baksa and Dibrugarh districts are flowing above the danger mark.The Majuli River island in the state is one of the worse affected as the houses and its people have been eroded away by the gushing currents. An old woman trying to settle down in a relief camp in Majuli said the scarcity of food and water has plagued people. According to local media reports, over 300,000 people have been badly hit as roads, embankments and bridges have been washed away, crippling the state’s infrastructure.
