Indian authorities detain 57 passengers with 64 kilogram of gold

Visakhapatnam, June 23 (ANI): Indian authorities detained 57 passengers and seized nearly 64 kilogram of gold, which was concealed in an assortment of electronic goods, at Visakhapatnam airport in Andhra Pradesh. Acting on an intelligence input, the customs officials mounted surveillance on different flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. A senior officer of customs department, Rajendran said they conducted extensive checks on electronic gadgets on three flights that revealed the treasure. India is the world’s top buyer of gold, and the high duty has made illegal shipments profitable.
