Low Pressure Zone in Bay of Bengal delays monsoon in Bihar, expected arrival by 24th June

A Low pressure zone created in Bay of Bengal has delayed South-West monsoon in Bihar by over 15 days. According to regional Met Department in Patna, the monsoon is likely to hit Bihar by June 24th. Presently, the monsoon winds are crossing the coastal regions of Odisha.

In past the Met has revised the Monsoon arrival in Bihar several times. Though the state has been witnessing pre-monsoon rains in several parts, it is highly irregular and provides no respite to farmers who are waiting to plant Kharif Crops like Paddy.

The South West Monsoon arrived in Kerala on June 5, leading to a collective sigh of relief across the nation. If the weather conditions adhere to the predictions, then India will witness a sub-par monsoon for the second successive year.

By June 9, southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala had received substantial rainfall with the thus giving respite to people from sweltering heat. Heat waves had killed more than 2,200 people throughout the country with temperatures rising past 46 Celsius (114 Fahrenheit) in some states.

On June 21, Delhi and Northwestern India witnessed rains and thundershowers which is likely to continue for few days. Delhi-NCR and other areas nearby witnessed dark clouds since morning followed by rain.
