Rahul Gandhi begins padyatra with Chhattisgarh farmers

Janjgir Champa, June 16 (ANI): Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday began his padyatra with farmers and workers from Saradih village in Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh. Gandhi will cover around 12 kilometers distance during the foot march. Rahul is also likely to address a public meeting at Gabra village before concluding his tour. Ahead of the foot march, the official Twitter account of Rahul Gandhi tweeted about the padyatra. “Day 2 #RGinChhattisgarh Padyatra to begin shortly from Saradih Village, District Janjgir Champa,” he said. The state government here is building seven barrages on the Mahanadi river, including at the Saradih, Biraoni, Kalma and Basantpur villages, to supply water to over 40 power plants proposed to come up in the predominantly agricultural district. If these projects draw water from the Mahanadi river, there will be no water for farmers as well as people dependent on water bodies for their needs, he said.
