Authorities prohibit boating in Varanasi as River Ganges swell

Varanasi, July 21 (ANI): Authorities in Varanasi have prohibited boating in the River Ganges as the water is flowing above danger mark. The water level in Ganges was recorded at 62.320 meter on Monday (July 20) afternoon, after heavy and incessant rainfall hit parts of Indian states. Though the ban on boating will affect livelihood of boatmen, the step has been taken to ensure their safety. Residents staying on the banks of the River Ganges have started relocating as water entered the temple premises. Varanasi is one of the world’s oldest inhabited cities and a centre for Hindus who come to wash away their sins in the sacred river.
