Dry fruits business surge in Kashmir during Ramadan

Srinagar, July 05 (ANI): The sale of dry fruits has increased in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramadan as almonds, apricots, walnuts, raisins, cashew nuts, dried figs and dates have number of health benefits linked to breaking the day-long fast. The month of Ramadan begins with the sighting of the new moon, which varies in different time zones. People in summer capital Srinagar thronged the shops selling dry fruits as they are more than a sweet treat and also keep the heart healthy. Shopkeepers say the demand for dry fruits soars as they are also used in the preparation of various delicacies like desserts during the fasting month. People prefer dry fruits as they are a major source of energy that is required by the body due to fasting and also keep the body warm with essential nutrients like vitamins and minerals. Ramadan, which began on June 19 this year, is the ninth month of the Muslim lunar calendar. Ramadan ends with the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
